How to Reduce Firefox Memory Usage – Fix FireFox Mem Problem!

At last a solution to FireFox’s memory issues! Firefox Ultimate Optimizer appears to have been developed by some ~~Spanish speaking guy~~ but is easily downloadable from ~~Softonic’s website~~. Unfortunately, it is only currently available for Windows computers. Sorry Mac and Linux users

I have been using this application for a few days now and it has noticeably reduced Firefox’s memory usage – even when I have 20 tabs open with various media running!

Once you have downloaded this program, all you have to do is run the EXE file and it will add an icon to your task tray. I have added a shortcut of the EXE file to my Startup folder but I think there is an option to have it load when Windows starts.

AutoComplete in IE7 doesnt work – Fix Autofill with simple Registry Fix

Internet Explorer 7 appears to have some problems with the autocomplete function. Even after ticking evey box under the AutoComplete options in IE 7 i still coulnt get it to remember previous forms I had filled. This annoyance eluded me for quite some time but recently I discovered a simple registry edit to turn it back on.

Click on Start button
Click on Run
Type regedit, in RegEdit use the search function to find the term FormSuggest
Double click on Use FormSuggest
Change value from no to yes (on some computers the value may appear as a DWORD value. If this is the case for you, change the value from 0 to 1)
You may need to restart computer for changes to take affect.

Speed up Firefox Browser with a few simple tips

Firefox is by far my favorite internet browser but once you add all your add-ons and plugins it seems to slow down a bit. While searching for ways how to speed up Firefox on my computer I found a website with 13 ways to boost the speed of Firefox.

This is not a definitive guide to speeding up Firefox but it is a good start.

Stop Websites from resizing Firefox browser window

Techpwn has a nice little tip about how you can stop websites from resizing Firefox browser window.

To stop your Firefox Browser Window from resizing you need to:

1. Open Firefox
2. In Windows click on Tools then Options. On a Mac click on Preferences.
3. Click on the Content Tab
4. Click on Advanced button which can be found to the right of Enable Javascript checkbox.
5. Uncheck Move or Resize Existing Windows

Viola! Firefox window now shouldn’t resize automatically on particular websites.

How to manually backup Firefox bookmarks to CD, Flash Drive or Hard Drive

Mozilla Firefox stores all your bookmarks and passwords etc in a “Profile” folder. Your bookmarks are stored in a file within this folder called bookmarks.html

To get access to this file so that you can copy it to a CD ROM, Flash Drive or External Hard Drive you will need to navigate to your Firefox Profile.

In Windows XP you can find the folder at:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\\(your Firefox profile name is probably unknown to you … usually it is a random string of eight characters – you’ll probably just have to guess at this point, but it should be fairly obvious )

Now all you need to do is copy the bookmarks.html file to your desired back up media.

Yahoo mail doesn’t load in Internet Explorer

I have had quite a few people email me explaining that they can not get Yahoo! Mail to load in Internet Explorer. I have searched a variety of different forums and websites for a common solution and have come up with these general tips:

Is your internet connection working? If not check out my previous post about Winsock/LSP repair to find out how you can fix your internt connection.
If your internet does work, go to www.ccleaner.com and download CCleaner. CCleaner is a neat little tool that makes cleaning out temp files and other unneccesary stuff for Internet Explorer really easy. Just install CCleaner and hit Run Cleaner. Don’t forget to close down IE when you run the scan!
If this doesnt work, try using a different internet browser like Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla Firefox is a very popular browser due to its standards compliance and strong security features. You can download Mozilla Firefox from here.
Perform a basic Adware/Spyware/Malware clean up. Download XCleaner Micro and CWShredder to remove nasties from your computer that may be interfering with the internet or Internet Explorer. Delete everything that Xclean_micro finds … CWShredder will automatically remove infections.
